Hungry For More

Outfit Details:   Vest: Dollhouse+DIY   Tank: thrifted   Skirt: c/o Stylezi   Sandals: Forever 21   Necklace: c/o Lylif

Okay, so who hasn't seen the Hunger Games by now?
Go watch it if you haven't!
Or even better, read the books first.

Haha, I'm quite pleased with the movie translation, which doesn't happen too often when its based off my favorite books. I read the series back when it first came out, and after watching the movie, I want to re-read them so I can flesh out all the details and revive my memory.

This is what I wore to go watch the movie last weekend. Another high-low hem skirt! This time though, I have to thank Stylezi for sending it over to me. I'll admit I was nervous when I picked it out, since its a Korean-based store...and you know how Koreans are built. I'm not exactly the most petite girl around. However, I was relieved to find it stretchy and comfortable. Plus, since its black, it goes with a lot in my closet!

Hmm, so tomorrow I'm going back out to work on the farm. In a previous post I made reference to this, but my friend Jesse works on his grandpa's farm and invites a lot of us out to work and make some money. Its a really great place actually, because while the work may be hard, we're all pretty close friends so its fun! Plus, there are atvs to drive ;)

So after watching The Hunger Games, I want to go out and buy myself a bow and arrow. Oh, and some archery lessons would probably help...

What did you think of the movie?

Tribal Beat

Outfit Details:   Tank: thrifted   Skirt: thrifted + DIY   Shoes: c/o GoJane

With summer approaching, I've been on the lookout for some eye-catching, colorful shoes to wear, and these Tribal Print Wedges fit the bill!

The lovely people over at GoJane were kind enough to send me these to review for them.
So what can I tell you about these 5.5" wedges? They're comfortable! Okay, so walking on a flat, stable surface is preferable (be cautious if you're going through some bumpy grassy areas like I did). However, if you're used to wedges or heels, these shoes are pleasantly walkable. Haha, I felt so tall and like a super model wearing them! They help ensure I don't end up with a short guy ;)
No offense to them! But ladies, I'm going to need a tall man in my life when I meet one. Haha, I am not giving up wedges or heels just to make him feel less intimidated.

This skirt is a thrifted find that was originally a long and frumpy maxi (my favorite kind!) I just took some scissors to it and made it into a high-low hem! I love this style of skirt. It adds so much more interest. Plus, it matched my new wedges perfectly!

Necklace: c/o Lylif
As you can see, I'm using my Lylif necklace a lot! Its such a great statement necklace. It completed the tribal theme with the wedges.

Gold Bangles: Claires   Wood Bangle: Philippines   Belt: thrifted

Oh, and like the headband? Kirsten got super creative and DIYed it from a belt she found at a thrift store! Super cute, huh? I'm convincing her to make an Etsy shop ;)

Spring For Joy!

Spring has finally warmed up Idaho! For how long, I'm not sure, but fingers crossed that the rain holds off so I can enjoy this heat. Haha, and like that jump picture? I'm pretty sure its the best one yet. I was so happy it was warm enough to wear sandals and a skirt - without tights!

This bird print skirt has been sitting in my drawers just waiting for a warm day. I adore the bird print on it, and the best part? I snatched it up for $4 at Rue 21.
These sunglasses are another favorite of mine. They have a slight cat-eye shape to them, which I've found is really flattering for my face. So you'll be seeing them in a lot of future posts...just a warning. Sunglasses and I have a love/hate relationship. I love them, but most of them just hate me and my face shape...

Mom and I visited my future college campus (exciting!) and wandered the grounds. I had to do some outfit photos here! The line of trees created such a pretty park effect.

This necklace is a new favorite of mine, and the lovely people at Lylif sent it to me. Its their Metallic Triangles Necklace, and I love how it defiantly breaks that silly "Gold and silver do not mix" rule. Say what!? I don't think so!
Lylif is such a great site for affordable, trendy jewelry and cute accessories. I'm actually planning on buying another necklace of theirs, and a lot of their rings have caught my eye. You should definitely drop by and check out their site!

Haha, oh, and wondering why I'm wearing my floppy hat? Besides the fact that I love it and it goes with my outfit...it also helped hide my sunburned cheeks. See, when I went out to Jesse's farm to work, I forgot to apply sunscreen...I know, pretty bad. Ah well, thank goodness for aloe vera!

Anything you're excited to do during spring?

Sketching Florals

Outfit Details:   Dress: c/o Sugarlips   Hat: JcPenney   Belt: thrifted   Clutch: vintage   Wedges: thrifted

Brace yourself for a photo barrage! I got something really sweet in the mail recently and wanted to capture it in every possible angle to show it off. Haha, so, swinging from one end of the fashion pendulum to the other, I traded in my studded belt and Doc Marten look-alikes for a softer, feminine style.

Gold Bangles: Claires   Wooden Bangle: Philippines

When this dress arrived in the mail, I couldn't have been more excited! I'll admit I was surprised when I saw the sleeves, since on the website it wasn't portrayed very clearly. However, I love it! The billowy batwing style is the perfect touch to this beautiful floral dress. All I needed to add was a belt, a few bangles, and my floppy hat, and I felt like the dress was a statement enough. Sugarlips Apparel has some wonderful clothing on their site and, judging from this dress, is good quality. I pretty much just want everything they have. So if you want, check out their site!

It was practically like summer outside! Almost into the 70's, a few fluffy clouds in the sky, and a light breeze in the air. Mmmm, it was perfect. I'm so glad we're finally getting some warm weather now. Hopefully it stays this way!

And ah yes, had to test out the dress's capability and did a jumping shot. It passed with flying colors. :)

Crank That

Outfit Details:   Sweater: vintage   Shorts: c/o OASAP   Belt: thrifted   Necklace: antique + diy   Boots: thrifted

Okay, so a little more picture heavy than usual, but its only because I love this outfit so much!
Ha, I don't know what's going on with my style, but I'm not questioning it. That's the wonderful thing about fashion. You can play around and dress up however you like and experiment.

And I'm loving how this experiment turned out. Sorry if it's a little repetitious from the last post (er, same sweater and boots...haha), but hey, think of it as a remix! So I took my shimmery gold sweater and paired it with my favorite lace shorts from OASAP. Result? Sexy and edgy. Then I tried that "tuck-a-portion-of-your-top-into-your-bottoms" trend. Haha, added a studded belt and it was perfect.

I really love these sunglasses. I wear them a lot in the summer!
When I picked them up at a garage sale, I didn't think that much about it. I mean, they were only 15 cents!
However, when I got home, I became curious and Googled the name that was imprinted on the inside of the sunglasses.

Turns out Laura Biagiotti sunglasses are up in the $100's

Umm...wow. Major score! Haha, so don't overlook garage sales.

I spent the entire day out at Jesse's farm working. Seriously, got up at 6, actually started working at 9, didn't quit till 6, and then we spent two more hours just hanging out. So super long day, although it was still fun since I got to hang out with my best buddy. We got to race around on ATV's when we were done, so I forgive him for being a workaholic. Plus, I'm getting paid for it this time! Haha, that always helps. I'm already plotting what I could get from online stores (Helllooooo Romwe!)

Like where I took these photos? These were taken yesterday, in case you're wondering why I would've worn this to the farm to work. Haha, I decided I'd take advantage of our garage since mom had the car. I never thought to try photos out there, but the garage door makes a perfect white backdrop! With my dad's go-karts and mechanical tools lying around, I also thought it'd make a great theme for this edgy outfit. And, with the windows open, the lighting was pretty good.

Oh yes, I'm just too lazy to lace up my boots all the time. Haha, I kind of like the undone look it has, actually. Any opinions?

And here's a little preview of a post to come ;)

Well, by using Rafflecoptor to randomly select a winner, the winner of the Mochi Beaucoup Majesty Necklace is...

Plamena Zahova of Fashion Thrill!
Congratulations Plamena. Mochi Beaucoup will ship you your prize. :)
Thank you to everyone who entered! I plan on bringing you more giveaways in the future.

Now, I'll share with you my most recent outfit.

Outfit Details:   Sweater: vintage   Button-Down (underneath): White Stag   Jeggings: Debs   Boots: thrifted   Bag: thrifted   Sunglasses: garage sale
Today's spring? What spring? There is no spring weather here!
Necklace: Philippines
Okay, so there's lots of rain, but I was thinking more along the lines of sunshine.
Anyway, the cloudy days have affected my style I think. Normally I use color to inject some interest into my outfit, but I experimented with darker material and ended up loving it! Plus, I finally have tried the whole "collar-underneath-a-sweater-with-a-statement-necklace" look.
Wow, what a mouthful.

This sweater is a thrifted find that I haven't worn in a while ( here's the last time I wore it...wow, long time ago!). I almost feared I'd just broken my Thrifting Rule #1! Haha, if your confused, see the post below. However, since I trimmed its excess length and now understand the whole layering concept better, I'm certain this will be used more now.

Oh, like my nails? Like I said, the dark weather kind of got to me. Haha, but I still added some color at least! I like the idea of one finger being different than the rest. Here's my edgy take on it. Purple zebra print!

Can't get enough of my new boots! They really do resemble Doc Martens, and they add such a cool edge to everything.

Skull & Keyhole Rings: Claires   Owl Ring: Philippines

And of course, what outfit post with Linda wouldn't be complete without her jumping like a spazz? Haha, I promise next time I will resist the temptation and spare you these photos.

Wherever you are, hope your spring weather is warmer!

Thrifting Tips

I was recently asked by Rory of WearAbouts for some thrifting tips, and I suppose I have a few to share. Although I don't consider myself an expert, I've been able to find some treasures whenever I stop in at a thrift store.

As a high school girl with no job (hoping to correct that soon!) and completely dependent on her parent's mercy for a fashionable closet, a thrift store is a treasure chest. Some thrifting rules that I've discovered by trial and error are these:

1) Never buy anything if you wouldn't buy it full price. Even if its only a couple dollars! I know how that ends up. Too often have I fallen into the trap of thinking "Its only so-and-so much, whats the harm in buying it?" You use it maybe once and then after that, its stuffed in the back of your closet, never to be seen again. Now that's a waste of a couple of dollars that you could've spent on something else.

All items: thrifted

2) Develop an eye for potential. This may take a while (and quite a few unnecessary purchases). However, once you can spot items that you know will work in your closet, you can discover a lot of treasures in thrift stores! For example, I always browse the skirt and dress racks, because even though the majority of them are long and frumpy, I know I can DIY them into something chic. Remember, scissors and sewing skills (in this case, my mom) are your best friends!

3) Always check for stains, rips, etc. And if you're still willing to purchase the item, try talking to the salesperson about knocking the price down for you.

4) Ignore the size labels. In thrift stores, this does not matter. Anything could work! Just try everything on and then decide.

Dress & Shoes: thrifted
5) Also, wear comfortable clothes. For example, not all thrift stores have fitting rooms. To try something on anyway, it will be a lot easier to try that blouse you're considering over a slim-fit tank or shirt than your trendy blouse+cardigan+belt layer.

6) If you have a smart phone, utilize it! I only recently got one as a gift, and man, has it helped me out. I downloaded this app called Stylish Girl, and you can use it to take pictures of all the items in your closet (okay, that part is extremely taxing and long - but the pay off is worth it!) and make outfits. Then when you're out shopping, you can use it to see if the item you're considering will go with a lot in your closet. I use this app all the time to make decisions!

All items except jewelry: thrifted
7) If you find something similar to what you want (example: you're looking for a white lace skirt, and you find a black one), don't buy it if you're not completely sure! This kind of ties into rule 1, but don't settle for less. Just because the low price is tempting, you don't have to buy it. Thrift stores get new (okay, not "new" but new to the store) clothes all the time! Find out when they put out fresh stock and check back.

8) Don't be afraid to get down and dirty. What I mean is, be meticulous in your searching! There are a lot of hidden goodies in thrift stores, so dive in and search every rack. Also, the shops that have that musty old smell? Don't be turned off by that and walk away. Sure, 90% might be unusable, but imagine what the 10% is. You never know what you'll find.

Skirt & Shirt: thrifted
Some bloggers that often feature thrifted pieces are Tonya of The Moptop, Megan of Feathers and Freckles, and Dana of Daily Dose of Dana. You can check out their outfits for ideas on how they recreate old, thrifted items!

Hope these tips helped and have fun. :)
